Chris Tiller, DVM - Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine

Chris Tiller, a veterinary student at Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences (CVMBS), has pursued three distinct careers: professional baseball umpire, trucking company owner, and now veterinarian. His unique journey demonstrates that it's never too late to follow your passion - a philosophy that would later inspire the creation of VetGeni, an ai veterinary scribe designed to help veterinarians spend less time on paperwork and more time with patients.

From Baseball Diamond to Behind Home Plate

Tiller initially pursued baseball, playing through junior college and Texas State University. After leaving a computer science major, he attended the Jim Evans Umpire Academy in Florida, completing an intensive eight-week certification program in 2000.

He progressed through professional minor leagues - including the Midwest League, Florida State League, Texas League, and Pacific Coast League - before reaching Major League Baseball in 2007 with his first game in Milwaukee.

A Family Decision

Despite professional success, the demanding travel schedule conflicted with family life. Tiller made the difficult decision to step away from umpiring after missing his second son's birth while traveling for a game.

“The moment you realize you're not happy doing something, move on.”
— Chris Tiller

Business Ventures & New Beginnings

In 2008, Tiller launched a trucking company with his brother, eventually building it to 60 trucks serving the oil industry before taking full ownership in 2013. But in 2016, visiting his father's mixed animal clinic reignited childhood ambitions.

His father, Dr. Robert Tiller '76, inspired the decision to pursue veterinary medicine. Tiller enrolled at Texas A&M, leveraging lessons from his previous careers to manage academic demands.

The Path to VetGeni

During veterinary school and in practice, Tiller experienced firsthand the documentation burden that plagues modern veterinary medicine. Long nights catching up on SOAP notes, discharge instructions, and client communications inspired him to build a better solution.

VetGeni was born from this experience - an ai veterinary scribe that uses voice transcription and AI to transform how veterinarians document patient care. The platform reflects Tiller's belief that technology should serve practitioners, not burden them - allowing vets to focus on what matters most: their patients.

Legacy & Looking Forward

Tiller credits his wife's unwavering support throughout all career transitions. His journey from MLB umpire to veterinarian to tech founder demonstrates that diverse experiences can combine in unexpected ways to solve real problems.

Today, VetGeni serves thousands of veterinarians, helping them reclaim hours each week that would otherwise be spent on documentation. The veterinary AI scribe technology continues to evolve, powered by the same determination that carried Tiller from the baseball diamond to the veterinary clinic.
